My reason for being here...
... is to watch the matsuri (festivals) here. Two large festivals happened to be opened in the same week. The Hokudai sai(Hokkaido Uni fest) and the yosakoi soran(a dance that has something to do with the fishing industry here).
Be forewarned that this is an extremely large post.
First, let's start with Hokudai sai cos I went to it first.
I actually went to Hokudai sai twice so this is my second time. Not as fun as my Ryudai sai (my okinawa uni's festival) but that might be because no alcohol is allowed. So this second time, I went with Dawn, Chika, Nozomi and Erica. Yes, that's my student Chika and her husband.

And next, the yosakoi soran. The yosakoi soran was what made me feel like there is actually something good from going to Hokkaido. It was one of the most exciting festivals I have ever went to. Ayumi invited me to go along with her friends.
This was taken while I was waiting in the subway for Ayumi and friends to come. It's so fun to see groups in different costumes emerging from the exit. This is actually a competition though I am not sure what the group that wins will get. (BTW, pls dun expect this to be an informative blog. I am still as blur as sotong)

One of Ayu's friends actually knows some people from this group so we got them to take a pic with us. Btw, there were lots of cute guys performing but there were also lots of obasans and si gin na so dun expect non-stop eye candy.
There are actually two items to this competion. First it a parade ala chingay style on the left. Then, another dance on a stage.
He he.. jus for fun, I am including this bushy old man standing on the top left corner of the stage, shouting 'Yokoi sho yokoi sho' to the music.
