Aug 2nd to 4th- Aomori festivals (Part 2)
I took so many nice pics and videos that I just have to cut my Aomori trip into two entries, even though I only went there for 3 days! So on 3rd Aug, me, YL and her ALT friend, Wade, went to Aomori city via JR. Today is the day where I pretend to be an ALT and join in the NEBUTA FESTIVAL!! Ahaha!! Actually, some people thought that I am an ALT cos I keep hanging around Dawn and Erica that they try to interperse their Japanese with English for me so that's nothing new.
We were running a little late but it turned out that after all the changing, we were all just in time for the festival. There is no need to practise cos all we need to do is to jump and shout 'rasera rasera rase rase rase ra'. I am soooooo amused by this chant cos it really sounds like 'lak sek lah lak sek lah' (literally means 'faded color' in Hokkien but also means 'no good'). Check out the videos below!
Aomori is famous for apples so...
I like the streets cos it's conducive for shopping even in rainy weather.
As I am not officially an ALT in Aomori, I have to change in a room reserved for ALTs' friends. I suspect most of the people here are ALTs from other prefectures though. That bald guy is very efficient at tying the red sash!

Then, moved to the streets where we waited a little bit more before the procession actually starts. Here are the Nebuta floats. There are a lot lined up in the street but I can only take the one behind me cos I am dancing.
After that, it's time to JUMP JUMP JUMP!!!
I snucked out of the processions about 1 hour into the festival to take pics of other floats and poor YL has so much trouble trying to find me after that.

Lastly, take a look at the videos below. Two are of the floats in the procession. There seems to be a wheel of sorts on the bottom but otherwise, it's pushed by a bunch of people below it. The other is a very dark and blur video taken from within the procession. Hear me shout Lak sek lah and YL's laughter!
