The state of being either impotent or apathetic
... are to me, what afflict the people of my country.
I have not really been following Singapore politics, as I have been taught that politics are for politicians and we are not supposed to meddle. But this particular news had been brought to my attention by a fellow facebooker/Sporean I met in Sapporo recently.
This friend's response, to quote, was: "The current situation now is this: All decisions will be, and has been made purely by the elitist in the upper rung of the society (a.k.a the people in the one-party government and others linked to them). This decision does not take into consideration the thoughts, feelings and ideas from the people of the general population.
Plenty of examples I can list down here. I just want to list down one.The move to build a casino here in this great Lion City.I dare say the majority of the people are against it.
I feel there is a great sense of arrogance among them. It is not surprising the leaders of this small country have the audacity to talk about improving the gene pool by encouraging graduates to marry only graduates. Are we just going to sit by with this kind of idea of a state which promotes eugenics?

How can this statement be allowed in the media, without ANYONE rebuking this idea in the "mainstream" forums in the media? Why is there no uproar over this?
Are the people afraid? Maybe.Apathetic? Most likely. The people in this small country have resigned to their fate. Also, the media likes to paint a rosy picture every time. Not surprising since there's only the Straits Times available. The editors practice self-censorship so that they are in line with the govt's ideas and thoughts."
Well, I am just quoting him wholesale cos this is an exact reflection of my thoughts too. Why else am I trying so hard to find some other country to move to. This is simply a choice between having a sense of imprisoned peace or choosing to deal with an uncertain freedom. Honestly, nothing is perfect. I do love my country but I thank God that I did get a chance to choose to come here.
