Topics that I wanna write/think/read about even though I shld be typing my Masters thesis
1) America's post-colonialization of Japan: Langauge, mass media and phenotype Big subject. Can focus on Japanese uni student who join 'circles' or clubs that assist Intl students, ALTs in Japan and their attitudes, lifestyes, japanese attending churches with an international following as its members etc etc...
2) Critical race studies and 'whiteness' studies: Japan as a case study Cos nobody knows or cares about minorities here and they take their willful enjoyment of rights, ignorance of history etc all for granted. It is very pervasive and very invisible. Cos everybody will say that they do not discriminate or have no prejudices. But the very act of ignorance or 'historical amnesia' already leads to a form of prejudice.
3) Nails that stick out: The 'hippies' in modern Japan Really really different people with different lifestyles and point of view. May even consist of the elderly, who have found a new meaning in their perception of Japanese society after retirement. It is ironic, cos they might be the only group of people who actually seeks the 'truth', whatever it is supposed to be.
