Rude Awakenings
I was rudely woken up this morning at 7:45 to be informed by my mum that I am going to attend my brother's convocation ceremony at NTU (Nanyang Technogical University) at 9am, and that she is on her way over now with chee cheong fun to sweeten the deal. Unfortunately, I wasn't sweetened. I was cordial to my brother, tried to murder my mum with sarcastic arrows, and ironically warm towards my errant father.
A natural kancheong spider when it comes to her precious son, my mum called me a total of 4 times, lying to me about the various stages of her progress across Singapore in a bid to hurry me up. In the end, I had to wait for them and I had to have my breakfast in the car.
To be honest, I didn't mind going as I am curious about NTU campus. Their Arts building is extremely interesting!! Almost made me wish that I had studied there. Of course, the lack of raining balloons at the end of their convocation ceremony convinced me that NUS was the right choice after all.
The ceremony was tedious and the fumes of stale cigarette emanating from my dad whenever he coughs was yucks. Luckily, having 'A' as the first letter of my surname allowed me to do the necessary applause for my brother before proceeding to fall asleep in as elegant a pose as possible (you never know when a wandering lens catch you with your venus flytrap wide open).
The refreshment was so-so. Interestingly, there were quite a few graduates in their robes shoving with the buffet queue. Perhaps they did not get to make any lasting friendships worth taking group photos over.
After dropping me off at Hazel, my brother asked me if I want him to give me a lift back to bedok this weekend. I was coward enough to simply say that I am not going back this wkend. Should I brave into the righteous fury of the angry storm and say that I don't want to owe him any favors in case he request for a payback in the future? Haiz... I hate to be threatened...
Anyway, check out their amazing School of Art, Design and Media:
