A whole new world
This is not another side of the coin. Not a matter of whether to say 'I do' or not. It is simply a whole new coin. A totally different set of priorities in life, perspective, and lifestyle. Of course, we are still hampered by a history of preconceived notions... of what we are supposed to strive for in life, checking the box of each stage as we get older, and our hang-ups during our growing up years. But we do not check all the boxes, nor do we do not follow the norms.
One is thinking of home-schooling her little princess. The choice of escaping from the rounds of peer pressure, group mentality, popularity contests and being subjected to judgments by all and sundry. I can't say that I am all for it. We had went through the trials of fire, we were thrown into the deep sea to sink or swim and we had survived. Would we have become a better person if we did not endure and survive the juvenile antics of our peers and angst of growing up? Would we have less hang-ups? I cannot say, but I must say that she will either become a unique individual or turn into EQ-challenged girl.
Another wants to 'hang-out' with her boyfriend forever while staying in her parents' home. An entirely platonic but committed relationship with each other. Highly unorthodox as all dating couples aim to tie the knot at the end of the road. A position taken by a woman independent from all the social mores in a relationship. This is a love that is tempered by their relationship with God and perhaps, it may just work.
And there is me, spurning the corporate ladder and marriage mart. A future that is both exciting and uncertain. No steady income and no confirmed personal pot of gold at a rainbow called marriage. Many may be envious of my future in the Big Apple. But honestly, the magic carpet ride may be breathtaking, but definitely unstable.
Perhaps what we are searching for is not a certain success that is prescribed by society. It might not be what we should do, but instead, what we desire to be. So while we may not take the main thoroughfare, sideroads are still perfectly legitimate.
