下一站，幸福
Secret Garden was not supposed to happen. I accidentally started on the first episode one weekend and couldn't stop. Thus, ending in a crazy week of trying to catch up with my readings and papers.
However, 下一站，幸福 was legitimate pleasure. Cos it is currently spring break!! While I liked this drama, my fav taiwan drama remains 命中注定爱上你. Basically, the running theme of 下一站was, 'women cannot survive in this world without men'. And if you had the atrocity to actually survive without a man supporting you, you become a dried up evil old hag (i.e., the disapproving mother). I simply hated the way they portrayed women.
The only saving grace was how Vanness (the lead) was led around by the three women in his life (love-interest, supporting love-interest and mother). So he totally had no agency.
What is especially great about this drama is that it is totally spoilable. You know she is going to get pregnant and leave him. You know they meet again 6 years later. It was the whole playing around with temporality and expectations that was great. Especially the ending theme, with clips of the happy family. So you juxtapose the terrible 'present' they are suffering and the extreme '幸福' presented in the ending theme. So spoil away!
