A giant gnat on my sofa
There is a giant gnat on my sofa. It is ok if the gnat bothers to give everybody in the apartment some kind of token gift. Even a small piece of chocolate. Cos the gnat's presence is an incredible imposition on us. Perhaps Japan has lost its influence on Taiwan. Maybe the rules of reciprocity does not apply in Taiwanese culture? But I like to believe the problem lies with the gnat.
Of course, if the gnat is my roommate's friend, her presence will be upgraded to a butterfly, at least. But the gnat is twice removed from my roommate. I.e., my roommate's friend's friend. So the gnat is three times removed from me and the rest of the roommates. And I am even more pissed cos the gnat is perched on my new sofa-bed in the living room. She stays perched on the same spot for HOURS. I really cannot tahan anymore so I went to the gnat and told her not to keep sitting on the same spot, cos it will create a hole. I don't care if it hurts her feeling cos she is a gnat that does not follow rules of reciprocity.
Nope, I wasn't happy with the gnat's presence. But it would be too terrible to say no when my roommate asked me about the gnat. And the other roommate was so politically correct. She just said, '你真是好人!' Seriously, if you have no money and no friend in NYC, don't come! Or else give me my goddamn omiyage. Sibeh boh gar si!
